"HAPPY HALLOWEEN"

A gentle breeze rustling the dry cornstalks,
A sound is heard, a goblin walks.

A harvest moon suffers a black cat's cry.
Oh' do the witches fly !

Bonfire catches a pumpkins gleam.
Rejoice, it's Halloween !

Sunday Stills, 25 and 50 Steps

 25

The challenge for this week was to pick a starting point and take 25
steps in any direction and take 3 photos.   The 25 steps could be
anywhere.    I had a lot of places in mine, but "want to" and "time for"
aren't always in the same week.  So, when we got done moving
equipment, last night, JS dropped me off on the road and I
walk home threw the Olive orchard.

50

Once you have counted out your steps, you are to anchor one foot,
you can pivot on that foot, but your anchored foot may not move.
Choose a starting spot again and walk 50 steps and repeat the instructions.
We were free to take the shots how ever we wanted.

Well everyone, have a great week and check
out the Sunday Stills site of more photos.

Thursday's Thoughts

"Yep, it was a tough day."

It's become my "responsibility" to take Mom and Aunt Patty,
for their birthday lunch and shopping.

"Somebodies got to do it."

The Adventures of Ranch Dog and Her Sidekick George

George and Cub aka Ranch Dog

Last Sunday, While JS was off at the neighbor's, I was cleaning and picking
up the cabin.  George and Ranch Dog were outside.  They kept barking at the
neighbor, so I put them up stairs in the cabin, while I cleaned the garage.
When I was done, I opened the door and call them to come down.

No response.... stepped inside the door and call again, Ranch Dog
was standing, looking out the window at the top of the stairs.
The window with no screen ?  "Come on you two, lets go"
Ranch Dog, just kept looking out the window.

"Oh Crap"....................George must be on the roof.

I go up the stairs and look out he window....No George ?
Look around the cabin....No George ?    Heading down the stairs,
I can see him setting outside of the front door.
"How the heck did he get out there ?"

"The the light go"s on"
Back up the stairs, look out the window and sure enough,
there are tracks and skid marks.  I check him out, He's fine.
Had to laugh, at what I could only imagine, was a not so
graceful exit off the roof.

Thursday's Thoughts

"I Love Fall"

Everything about it is my favorite.

The colors of the earth, red leaves, golden fields, pumpkins
every were.  The colors of fall make me happy.

Crisp mornings, in my favorite sweater.
Big pots of soup and stew, meat and potatoes
and hot bread pudding , make me happy.

Even the holidays are my favorite.

Halloween.
Spent on my girls front porch, oohing and aahing over
Fair Princesses and Goblins as we hand out treats.

Thanksgiving.
A long sit down dinner with my family,
makes me happiest of all.

Thursday's Thoughts

The garden served us well this summer.
Cucumbers and squash, peppers and tomatoes.
The beloved strawberry patch.

Raspberries, watermelons, even artichokes.
Basil, thyme and parsley in the herb garden.

It's done now,
doesn't need man to tell it, that winter is coming.

The only thing left to pick are the  pumpkins.

All two of them.

A Little Me Time

I took some time yesterday and ran to Chico.  Was actually birthday
shopping for Shane, but soon found out, that the brat had beaten
me to it.  He had also purchased my second choice,  so all he's
getting for his birthday, is dinner.

I then went to Barnes and Nobles the book store.
I'm a cookbook addict, always looking and checking out the new arrivals,
but nothing caught my eye.  Then Best Buy, looked at lenses for my
camera, $$$$$ that wont be happening for a long while.
Treated myself to lunch at a drive up window, swung by the Plant Barn,
love that place.  Didn't buy anything there either.

Then headed home, but instead of driving 99 I took the back way
to Richvale.  I wanted to get pictures of the rice harvest, but since it has
rained most of the week, nothing was happening.
Someone got a new harvester and bank-out-wagon.

I was also trying to get shots for the Sunday Stills challenge and
as I came up over the after-bay, I spotted snow up on the mountains.
It's a little early for that.

"Birthday Boy"

Shane, JS and Dawn

Meet our oldest, Shane .......Dad to side kick "George"

Shane was the perfect kid, loving and always good.
We called him Mr. Clean, a place for every thing and everything in it's place.
His little wranglers had to be pressed, just right for school.
( I would come to regret that )

Smart and active, Shane could do anything and was proficient at most.
He was also a rough and tumble kid, that I could share more then a few
emergence room stories about..........Smart is not always wise .

By junior high Shane's interest in history and the world took hold
and he became active in Civil War re-enactments.
His trusty steed "Mi amigo Jorge"
"My friend George"  (see a pattern here)

Would carry him full charge to many adventures,
including a full re-enactment at Gettysburg , his senior year.

Shane participated in high school to the fullest, academics, government, sports
and at home during those years he leaned, construction, farming ,hard work,
and the importance of community and country.
Then on to college, where one day he came home a man.

Shane did his student teaching in Ireland.....yes, the red head fit right in.
Since then, he has traveled the world and worked in the Governors office.
His life today has him in business meeting and business suites.

But his red neck roots still show.

Hope Today, Cure Tomorrow, 2011

I had the best day, Saturday with my girl.

Dawn signed us up to participate in the annual "Walk for a Cure"
fundraiser, put on by Sigma Phi Gamma.  It was held at
Bedrock Park, where we met Dawn's friend Melissa,
who's family was walking in memory of her aunt Cindy.

I had never been before, it is quiet an event.  We arrived at
8:30 for the pancake breakfast..."pink pancakes".  There
were activities, vendors and lots of people.  Even got to visit,
with old friends, I hadn't seen in years.

After some announcements and directions the crowd, started
down the trails that follow the river, it was a great day.
Dawn and I walked about 2 miles,
we laughed and talked the whole way.

Pretty Picture Monday

My favorite time of day is that moment before the sun comes up
and the craziness of the would is not out of bed yet.
